It’s week 83 of the Draw or Die Newsletter. I can’t believe we’re getting into week 4 of Promptober 2023! Today we’re going to talk a little about FAILURE… but first, some housekeeping.
Hope to see you on the Livestream today at noon EST on Youtube.
I’ll be drawing live, we’ll give some stuff away, (this week’s special prize is from Art is Rad!) Drop your questions in the chat or email them to ally@drawordieclub.com and we can chat it up on the stream.
Don’t sweat it if you didn’t keep up or draw them all, hell, I’m WAY behind on my original plans for the month. I’m 50/50 disappointed in myself on one side, and on the other side I’m stoic about it and just know I have to roll with the punches. We definitely did NOT expect to dealing with covid and the lingering BS.
The Art of Failing
I bet you've felt it. That nagging weight that comes after a project doesn’t go as planned, or when your sketch doesn't quite capture the magic you had in mind. That feeling? We call it 'failure'. But let's chat about that term for a moment.
In the grand scheme of life and art, there really is no such thing as 'failure'.
What? Yep, you read right.
What you’re really feeling is maybe a sense of FEAR… the fear of failing at something you set out to do. Sometimes you don’t even start.
Remember… Every time something doesn't pan out, it’s a stepping stone, not a dead end.
Every sketch that didn't resonate, every painting that didn't inspire, and every idea that fell flat—they're all part of your journey.
🎨 Redefining 'Failure' 🎨
Let's decide, right here and now, to view these so-called 'failures' as what they truly are: learning experiences.
These moments teach us, mold us, and, more often than not, lead us to our most exceptional work. It's all about flipping that perspective.
The 'Try Again' Mantra
When you feel stuck or like you've hit a wall, remember this simple mantra:
"You have to fail before you can fly… try again.”
There’s liberation in knowing that you can always take another shot.
And the journey? That's where the fun really is.
We talk to a TON of artists out there who are feeling stuck, depressed, drowning in a feeling of perceived failure. If you find yourself feeling that way, remember: Just Breathe.
Know that every artist, from fledgling sketchers to iconic masters, has had their moments of doubt. Embrace this journey, celebrate every fucking step (yes, even the missteps), and dive back in with renewed vigor and a playful spirit.
In art, as in life, it's not about avoiding the inevitable falls, but relishing the joy of being alive enough to do this shit in the first place!
Remember, as long as we’re still here, there’s still time to DRAW AGAIN. 🤘🏻✏️
How about right now?
