081: It's a Sickness!
Wherein I talk about my experience at VidSummit and more
I spent the entire week (Monday - Saturday) out at VidSummit, with the world’s top creators, so I’m a little unprepared for this week’s post. Let’s do an old school thought dump and item list.
ITEM: Covid. To make things worse… looks I’m positive for Covid. Ally is all clear. Be careful out there folks, I was careless.
Total bummer, but even as I sit here writing this at 11pm with a fever and cough, I’m still riding the high off being at a convention where creator and artists are thriving.
ITEM: Promptober update/ don’t forget we have a livestream today at NOON EST on the YouTube Channel. I caught a little cough on the trip to VidSummit so I’ll try to hold it together on the stream! The plan is to give away the HOVEL from Makers Cabinet Live. So tune in for that!
ITEM: We saw a lot of artists this week feel they were behind of hadn’t started yet and we want you to know it doesn’t matter. Start when you start, do what you can where you’re at! Every drawing can be eligible for prizes so check the details at promptober.com so don’t worry! Remember to have fun with drawing! Will talk more on the stream about this topic.

ITEM: More on VidSummit. It wasn’t cheap to go, but worth EVERY penny. As I’m learning more about growing our own brand and channel I hope to pass this info onto you in some way. Even if you have no desire to launch a YouTube channel or build your own brand, I think it’s good info for Artists to at least understand how it all works.
I used to go to a lot of comicons and leave feeling energized and more creative. But over the years, comicons really changed vibes. Can’t really explain it but the vibe now feels desperate at comicons. Creators seem to guard “secrets” and tips and resources. It’s not like it used yo be.
But at VidSummit it’s like a giant open conversation among creators of all kinds. Everyone wants everyone to succeed. It’s a good feeling. Will it last? Time will tell, but for now it’s been an amazing experience and I can’t wait to put some knowledge into action.
