Welcome to week 36 of the Draw or Die Newsletter for Visual Storytellers. Today we’ll talk about:
The Spirit of the Draw or Die Club
A mini-drawing challenge for December
New “Weekly Drawing Challenge” …. Read on!!!
First, quich note of thanks for your merch orders! We have only a few hats left. 100% of profits from merch sales just go right back into building more things for the club to help support and encourage current and future generations of visual storytellers. https://drawordie.co/collections/all
Remembering the Spirit of Draw or Die
With many new members joining, I thought it would be nice to remind what this Draw or Die Club is all about.
And it’s good reminder for myself too.
#1 ENCOURAGING YOU TO KEEP DRAWING, EVERY DAMN DAY
Even on the toughest days…scribble something! Anything! When artists don’t express themselves regularly with drawing, they get stuck. When you cease to create as a creator, you’ll feel dead inside.
A pencil at rest stays at rest… keep it in motion!!! Don’t know what to draw? We have daily prompts to keep you accountable.
Yeah, the daily prompts are $5 a month, when you pay for something you hold more value in it then something you can ignore. And 100% of anything we make, we put back into the club projects to help support even MORE artists.
#2 WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER
Whether you’re a seasoned pro or aspiring beginner. You’re in a “secret” club filled with both. We know we all start somewhere and that we will all end in the same place one day. While we’re here, we need to encourage and support the creation of art together.
On this list I see and have conversations with a range of artists in different mediums and markets. Tattoo Artists, Comic Book Pros, Aspiring artists, animators & storyboard artists. Traditional and Digital… we’re all in this together.
We all feel and hear the same siren calling… Draw or Die!
#3 CARRY THE FIRE
Once your spirit has been ignited, it’s up to you carry that fire. Spread the message. Encourage and support others. GO SEEK THEM OUT. Invite them into the club. Alone we all get lost, but together we can empower current and future generations of visual storytellers.
#4 ART HAS THE POWER TO HEAL AND MAKE CHANGE
A bigger picture we tend to forget is that your art has the ability to heal. Yourself and others. When matched with your imagination, art has the ability to move mountains around. Everything begins with an idea. A sketch. Don’t forget that.
And hey, I’m not asking you to go change the world.
Only that you change your own.
TOM’S 12 DAYS of Christmas
Fellow club member Tom Romano has fun idea for a mini-drawing challenge in December. Here’s a link to Tom Explaining the idea!
I’m going to try this starting Dec 14th as a countdown to Xmas. If you take part be sure to tag #drawordieclub in your post so we can find and support each other.
The Weekly Drawing Prompt is now
THE WEEKLY DRAWING CHALLENGE!
Starting this week, the weekly drawing prompt is no longer just a casual suggestion, you’ve been challenged!!! So get your pencils moving, draw your version of this prompt and post online with a tag #drawordieclub so we can find and support each other!
The first “WEEKLY CHALLENGE” is…
In honor of today being Bruce Lee’s birthday, go ahead and draw your own version of this Jeet Kune Do Master. Also I just read that Bruce may have actually died from drinking TOO much water? That’s crazy.
Don’t forget we have Daily Drawing Prompts to keep your pencil and mind moving. Try it for free.
Stay encouraged out there, and draw every day!!!
